I deliberately saved this story from earlier to kick off pride month on what I hope is a positive note.
We are certainly not unique at my daughter's school in being same sex parents. However, due to our girl being rather popular and outgoing, we are probably one of the better known couples. And it has not escaped our attention that when friends are picked up from our home it is nearly always the dad who is on taxi duty 😅 But efforts to glimpse beyond the front door into our exotic existence will invariably prove disappointing. Our homelife is essentially governed by lists and spreadsheets, to accommodate my wife's neurodiversity, our daughter's busy schedules, and my love of the rule of law ⚖ The last time we saw any "hot lesbian action" was in February when the knob broke off our bedroom radiator 🥵
A couple of weeks ago a dad we know reasonably well came to collect his daughter from a sleepover. As goodbyes were said, my wife, daughter and I all contrived to appear in the hallway at the same time. The look on his face as he tried to process the sight of two white women and their brown-skinned daughter towering four inches above them was priceless 🤣
"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio
Than are dreamt of in our philosophy".
Shakespeare's Hamlet.
We don't do this for novelty value or to upset people. We don't employ a DEI coordinator or spend our days studying cultural relativism. This is our normal, daily life, although it is always a pleasure to make people stop and think about the world around them.
Happy pride month 🌈
