I think the reason gender debates cause so much reaction is because there are some real insecure people out there about their manliness or womanliness.
It is no wonder because how many people are made to feel like they are not man enough or woman enough for whatever reasons.
Why trans people are treated like a big threat is anyone's guess. Oh yeah people say crap like "they are grooming our kids" or "they are invading women's sports/women's spaces" but it is unlikely that such things happen anywhere near as often as the media acts like.
