Why do ppl label us Lesbian as Butch, Femme or Lipstick?

Why can't we just be women loving women, why divide us into categories, are straight ppl categorized like this are Gay split into categories like that too... I just wonder, cause I could not put myself in a category, I'm just a woman who love woman and that finds all women beautiful...

Oh this drives me so crazy, when I was with my girlfriend, people would be like, "Oh so you're both lipstick lesbians?" And then on other days, "Oh so you're more of a tomboy, huh?" And my personal favorite, "So which one of you is the guy?"
