How do you deal with homophobia?

The reason I ask is from a personal experience I had recently on line. Some guy sent me a message saying he would like to kill me because he thought I was gay and praised to Orlando criminal. This is positively shocking and I was quite intimated by it, even though I know there is no way he could find me as what he contacted me on is a strictly private and anonymous site, I used a fake name.

@YukikoAmagi you are? Great. Me too. I be in the open about it. But I surround myself with good people.

@YukikoAmagi That is good, please stay safe, and private, that would make you some sort of enigma. I come from a mining area where homosexuality was not in everyone's face when growing up in the 1980's, then Aids came along then all the really bigoted comments would surface and the gay community had the blame for this disease regardless of it coming from druggies as well as unprotected promiscuous sex and monkeys in Africa.

@AndrewC1993 You may be free and liberated by being out, and it is honest, but is it completely safe ? It is still wise to be a very private person and not be too open about it as even in the 21st century there are still homophobic people out there who just don't understand. I mean, how would you cope with homophobic slurs and comments and jokes, not being able to hold hands in public in case it provokes a homophobic attack. ?

@Andy69 I mean I'm open, even how I express myself but I value privacy too. And I live in Ireland so its quite laid back at times.
