Is being trans a mental illness?

Is being a transsexual and or transgender a mental illness? Discuss.

(Disclosure): I mean mental illness in the same sense as any mental illness such as ADD, ADHD, OCD, all the way to schizophrenia. I’m not using the term mental illness as in a brainless nut job.

No, period. Neither the medical nor the psychological community recognize alternate orientation as any kind of clinical disorder or mental illness. Only when it becomes such an issue as the interfere with daily life activities is it a reason for concern, and in almost every instance that has more to do with the way people react to the individual and the biases in society and the individual him or herself.
