Is being trans a mental illness?

Is being a transsexual and or transgender a mental illness? Discuss.

(Disclosure): I mean mental illness in the same sense as any mental illness such as ADD, ADHD, OCD, all the way to schizophrenia. I’m not using the term mental illness as in a brainless nut job.

No. Thw WHO , the World Health Organizzation recently stated that it was not under ICD-11 which goes into effect soon. It is not to be seen as that . Even the term "dysphoria" may not be accurate in many cases.

Those that believe that is is are living in a false view of the world as it has not been seen as that since ICD-08 and they are oft shameful to the trans community as they show their outdated views and biases.

@TakingBackMidgard I am trans and have been so for 7 or so years and I am NOT SUICIDAL! I am the happiest I have ever been as I am now legally female in every legal way!

Transgender--not ttransex as that involves switching form XX to XY chromosomes and I see that coming in 500-600 years as scientists continue to play god. Not in any lifetime of ours.

Sexuality and gender are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS-- and the medical community has shown that. In LGBT -"LGB" are SEXUAL and sexual choices. T--has to do with gender. NOT sexuality. Sadly I see person after person getting it confused and failing to recognize what medical authorities already have!

And not many get bottom surgery as no insurance PAYS for it. Insurance does pay for top surgery! Plus for many older trans people it is inadvisable to get bottom surgery done as the complications are too great for their age.

I'm a translesbian. A femme lesbian. I'm also a transwomen. Legally female in all documents! I'm TOO OLD for bottom surgery as I am in my 60's!!! An old hippie and flower child! Plus I'm now a gay girl! I love saying that!!!

This is something know about and I know about it first hand. I follow it a LOT!

And yet, try as I may I can't sway the minds of some who see it as something else or who equate sexuality and gender as the same.

I used to feel sorry for them. No more.

Life is far to short to live your life on anyone else's terms!
