Is being trans a mental illness?

Is being a transsexual and or transgender a mental illness? Discuss.

(Disclosure): I mean mental illness in the same sense as any mental illness such as ADD, ADHD, OCD, all the way to schizophrenia. I’m not using the term mental illness as in a brainless nut job.

@Anonymouslyyours86 that’s the case for a lot of people and it’s an honest thought. However so many people think of mental illness as something bad. That’s not true at all as it’s a part of life.

I suffer from anxiety now and then and that’s a mental illness.

Now if someone said “trannies need to be exterminated for their sins.” I’m sure people from all sides would stand against that.
