name a scam so prevalent we have forgotten it is one

I'll go first: marriage, when it is for the sake of a) the cessation of loneliness, b) having children as accessories, c) getting the house you couldn't afford alone, d) serving a man hand and foot because it is your sole role and ultimate purpose as a woman. e) buying your woman everything because you are solely a "provider" with a to-do list.

@kodiac man's search for meaning is deep though. why are we here? and dont tell me it is to "help others". why are the OTHERS here needing help?

@foldedunfolding Don't look to religion for answers.

@foldedunfolding I was randomly poking around youtube the other day and happened upon one of those religious videos.
This preacher was talking about some group who gave to the church. He was like "[they] tithed 30% of all their income to the church, which is more than what 80% of you all tithe"
I was thinking, "Ahh, trying to guilt trip his congregation into forking over is he?" 🙄

Oh and this video, another crooked preacher from yesteryear, just listen to about 30 to 40 seconds of the beginning and tell me he is not a con man. I think the guy in the red suit is just licking his chops waiting for Tilton to croak.

@Punches oh there are tonsss of charlatans..please dont get me wrong. esp those damnable televangelists and prosperity "doctrine" folks. but..as a religious person myself, at least i can believe there is a special place in hell for them 😏

@Punches i was once at a sham church where the pastors legit made everyone walk single file to give their tithes in front of the whole congregation. and if they didnt have cash? NO WORRIES!! they had a handheld credit card terminal!!

@Punches what i dont get is how the Bible can teach about the entire sacrificial system of the old testament being abolished..how the tabernacle had been replaced by the body of Christ..and how the body of Christ is WE, HIS PEOPLE....but folks only want to give tax deductible donations to tax exempt buildings. give to the church, His People.

THAT, THAT is the very definition of "tacky". 🤨 Almost as icky as the creepy uncle some families have to deal with.

And the tax thing, oh yeah organizations that are 501-c would rather fight hell and high water than pay tax.
I deal with the public at my job and someone came in and were SO concerned about their tax exempt status and kept mentioning it, even though removing it would have been a time-consuming hassle for all involved. The taxes on their transaction would have amounted to $7. I guess it would have killed them to pay that tiny amount.

@Punches ughhh yeah..like the ppl who want tax exemption for dropping off a broken tv at goodwill..how is that a generous act anymore??
Punches · 46-50, F
@foldedunfolding HA HA HA HA, people just trying to "stick it to the man" any way they can.
kodiac · 22-25, M
