The media's coverage of mass shootings in a nutshell

Mass shooter: *commits mass shooting*
The media:

Forget the victims, they're just a number. The shooters are gonna have their life stories told, their names and faces plastered everywhere. And no one has the guts or the sense to hold the media accountable, so that's why these mass shootings will continue to happen.

Plus all we do is offer useless platitudes like “thoughts and prayers” instead of taking action.

@MsAnnThropy Exactly. Or Facebook profile filters or sappy artwork to “stand in solidarity” with the victims. It makes me sick.
@Ducky Thanks and yeah me too.

The Demented - and Selective - Game of Instantly Blaming Political Opponents For Mass Shootings
All ideologies spawn psychopaths who kill innocents in its name. Yet only some are blamed for their violent adherents: by opportunists cravenly exploiting corpses while they still lie on the ground.

Buffalo Shooter Described Himself as Left-Wing, Trashed Conservatism
Law enforcement officials have provided an update after a gunman shot and killed at least 10 people in an attack on a Buffalo area grocery store. The suspected shooter, who was taken into custody, described his political beliefs as “mild-moderate authoritarian left” in a manifesto reportedly written by him. Leftist politicians and pundits have attempted to pin the shooting on numerous right-leaning figures, including President Trump and Fox News host Tucker Carlson.

We must remain calm and respect the dead during times of tragedy....

We now exist in a society for when a tragic shooting takes place, there apparently is no time used to grieve. No time for people to show reverence for the dead and no time to just show respect for all the victims. We are all encouraged to have an initial act of outrage, without ever taking the time in letting the facts and evidence unfold.

It has becomes a race by both sides of the political spectrum in order to place the blame on the other side for the tragedy. The media wants us to believe that the shooter always had to be motivated by a particular ideology, in order to commit such a heinous act.

How low have both sides become? Why is there always this insistence by the media to use tragedies for one side's political gain?

We need to all take a collective breath and stop feeding into these partisans on both sides, who use tragedies to instill hatred of our political opponents.

Time for all of us as decent human beings to learn how to act with class when a tragedy occurs. Wait for the gathering of evidence, and then come to a conclusion on why and how this particular incident took place, based upon the facts, along with an extensive investigation.

Most of the time these tragedies boil down to a mentally disturbed person, just reaching his/her tipping point and snapping. People within families need to pay close attention to loved ones struggling. With the proper attention, help and genuine care, most of this stuff could become avoidable.

Let's all respect the dead, especially when tragedies take place and put an end to scoring points politically.

Let's all make an attempt to resemble decent and caring human beings, and not pawns of particular ideologies/media outlets, which love to take advantage of our emotions, when we initially react to these types of tragic scenarios.

The main point of terrorism is to gain media attention. Yeah, you have a point.

I’ve said that too. That’s why he live steamed it.. Idiots prefer a story than to not give these psychos more reason to do twisted sh*t.

@MellyMel22 To quote a Marilyn Manson song:
Some children died the other day
We fed machines and then we prayed
Puked up and down in morbid faith
You should have seen the ratings that day

People can say what they want about him and his music, but at least he doesn't have any delusions on the media'ss relationship with mass shootings.

Society can fix this with a little help from the people at the top.

When we had the mass murder at Utøya in Norway we effectively made the murderer an unperson, we almost never utter his name. But we remember those who died because almost everyone in the country is only a couple of degrees of separation from someone who was there at the time.

For instance on the web page for Utøya its says
22.7.2011 ble Utøya åstedet for Norgeshistoriens verste terrorangrep da AUF sin sommerleir ble angrepet av en høyreekstrem terrorist.
In English (my translation)
On 22nd July 2011 Utøya was the site of the worst terror attack in Norwegian history whan the AUF summer camp was attacked by a right wing extremist terrorist,

Note that the name of the terrorist is not mentioned, he is beneath contempt, not worthy of mention.

No surprise...Why do you think we have so many books and TV shows about serial killers? It sells.
Ducky · 31-35, F
@CrazyMusicLover I truly believe if there was a collective effort to condemn the media for how they report on mass shootings, we'd start seeing it happen less. Mass shootings will never completely go away, unfortunately, but if the media starts being held accountable by many, I think we can at least start seeing progress.

You're absolutely right we shouldn't give these people the attention they crave. But it's not quite that simple. We need to analyze them, figure out how to predict when somebody's going to pull some shit like this.
