It's really sad but they still want guns

SW-User
Because of money. The NRA relies on that.
MeAgain · 51-55, M
Sadly enough I think that people get side tracked by jumping on the pro/anti gun issue when they're not looking at root causes. It's like saying obesity is due to McDonalds instead of taking into account the deeper societal problems or individual provocations.
My suspicions are that if you reduce poverty, depression, bullying, feelings of inadequacies, feelings of inequality, increase support networks, increase healthy outlets for aggression, etc, mass shootings would be reduced.
@MeAgain I agree that there are a number of areas that could be looked at and that people get side tracked/very defensive about this topic. I think it is interesting that some people responded to my question by saying it was a bad idea to take guns away from law abiding citizens. My question and comment didn’t say anything about doing so, indeed, I didn’t mention gun control at all, intentionally.

It's tough to navigate a contentious issue, especially one this polarizing and catastrophic.
I think it's easier to measure the success of abstinence and forget the hidden costs associated to misdiagnosed issues. Ask me how to fix my car vs my mechanic and there'll be world of difference.
@MeAgain It shouldn’t be a polarising issue. We should all be able to agree that there are too many mass shootings and that we should/ could take steps to prevent future massacres. What happened to fair and balanced discussions, compromise and common sense/logic?
Rocknrod · 61-69, M
If you research it. Most the people doing the mass shootings have a violent history. Not to mention a criminal record. How ever no one seems to look at that until after the fact. Take the guns from law abiding citizens won't help criminals will always have guns because they have no rearguard for laws.
Rocknrod · 61-69, M
@Looking I do. I'm saying we should keep an eye on these trouble people that do it. I'm saying the warning signs are there. Why don't law enforcement pay more attention. We see it but law enforcement turns their back until it's too late. Until law enforcement pays more attention to this it will always be a threat.
@Rocknrod But you don’t think there are any gun control measures that would help? What about mental health services?
Rocknrod · 61-69, M
@Looking There are some in place. Example I have a son who was involved in a domestic violence. He is not allowed to own or carry a gun in our state. We should do more to take guns from irresponsible people and those who are responsible be allowed to carry.
t3kkno · 70-79, M
More can and should be done. The sooner more people start taking responsibility for their own safety, instead of thinking the government should do everything for them, the safer we all will be.

From the FBI:
“Armed and unarmed citizens engaged the shooter in 10 incidents. They safely and successfully ended the shootings in eight of those incidents. Their selfless actions likely saved many lives. The enhanced threat posed by active shooters and the swiftness with which active shooter incidents unfold support the importance of preparation by law enforcement officers and citizens alike.”

Those are the final lines in the conclusion of the FBI’s Active Shooter Incidents in the United States in 2016 and 2017. The FBI defines an active shooter as one or more individuals actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area. Gang and drug-related shootings are excluded. “The active aspect of the definition inherently implies that both law enforcement personnel and citizens have the potential to affect the outcome of the event based upon their responses to the situation.”
It's getting ridiculous, isn't it? We need way tougher laws and after reading some of the other comments, I saw some reasonable answers/solutions. Yet if these psychos keep going on killing sprees, and they are caught and thrown in prison, instead of clothing and feeding them for years and years, I say an eye for an eye. It might send a message; behave or its curtains for you.

@RodneyTrotter huh? Who told you that? They don't read the news. Plenty of times people have stopped mass shooters or about-to-be mass shooters.

@RodneyTrotter google "white settlement texas" for starters.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
People want to take away guns from law abiding citizens so they can’t fight back. Hence criminals can do as they please with no fear.

@MrBrownstone Seems this is your script to read whenever the topic arises. Even when it doesn't answer the question.

Because the business with weapons is booming. Not common sense and humanity reigns the world, but money. 😕
Rocknrod · 61-69, M
@Loretta78 Not necessarily true. With today's internet technology you can make a weapon that can do considerable damage with a 3-D printer. I've seen it in action and the dismal results. It may have not had a thirty round clip but the guy got three people before a gal with a concealed carry took him down before he could get the next. So let me put another way. Guns are the weapon of choice for murdering thugs. Look at the two young gals in the school that were going to use knives. Until we start paying attention to the warning signs of these troubled people, killing sprees will keep happening. Not a pleasant thought but that's reality.

Thoughts and prayers haven't worked?

I wish I had something better to offer, but the only answer I see is that too many people distrust the government to protect them.
t3kkno · 70-79, M
SO, you got me thinking about this and look what I stumbled on: This may be your answer. Scary.

Why are people so mean to each other. They deserve to die.
DoubleRings · 51-55, F
Where’s the new one? what happened
@DoubleRings A synagogue in Pittsburgh. It’s breaking news, but it’s reported that there are multiple casualties.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
The problem is very complex regarding personal rights and even emotion. This guy did a good talk on the subject, but the videos are kinda long to get through all three... Though I highly recommend watching them. They are very well thought out and I believe they should be a must watch for anyone on either side before continuing the gun discussion.

For some reason I can't look the first one in... Playlist button in to corner and go to first in list.
