Sadly enough I think that people get side tracked by jumping on the pro/anti gun issue when they're not looking at root causes. It's like saying obesity is due to McDonalds instead of taking into account the deeper societal problems or individual provocations.
My suspicions are that if you reduce poverty, depression, bullying, feelings of inadequacies, feelings of inequality, increase support networks, increase healthy outlets for aggression, etc, mass shootings would be reduced.

@MeAgain I agree that there are a number of areas that could be looked at and that people get side tracked/very defensive about this topic. I think it is interesting that some people responded to my question by saying it was a bad idea to take guns away from law abiding citizens. My question and comment didn’t say anything about doing so, indeed, I didn’t mention gun control at all, intentionally.

It's tough to navigate a contentious issue, especially one this polarizing and catastrophic.
I think it's easier to measure the success of abstinence and forget the hidden costs associated to misdiagnosed issues. Ask me how to fix my car vs my mechanic and there'll be world of difference.
