Why does the U.S. have some of the largest incarceration rates in the world?

I feel the criminal justice system needs to be reformed and another thing you shouldn’t be able to force people to serve on a jury if they don’t want to or can’t. For self defense or protective measures such as defending yourself from a home intruder you could go to jail or for killing a rapist, child molester, or physically violent abuser you can go to jail. That’s so stupid. And for non violent offenses for drugs and prostitution there should be rehabilitation and social programs to help combat people from slipping through the cracks back into that lifestyle not jail. Kill and jail the pimps though. I honestly sometimes think vigilante justice is best and taking out the bad guys should not get you imprisoned. And cops should not have special rights. If you hit a cop, it is like you hit anyone else. Not more jail time for assaulting an officer. That’s what I think anyway.
