It appears someone tried to break into my place of residence

I noticed the bedroom window is broken in pieces.
Someone has tried to jemmy the window open and in the attempt, the glass smashed. There is an indentation in the wood frame 25mm - 1" - wide and the deviding wood is bowed slightly.
No idea when this might have happened. Though within the previous 20 hours.
Would they try it in daylight hours?
I am at work 5 days a week until 4pm.
Did they try after I went to work at 4am? If this was the case then that would imply the perpetrator knew I would not be at home. One of my neighbours?
No entry was gained
Reported to landlord.

Are these the type of windows you could put a dow rod in to prevent someone on the outside from actually being able to raise or to slide the window regardless of the status of the lock? If so, I would try that - it might slow them down enough to get tired of messing with things. Good luck.

@LadyBronte Outward opening window with a latch that goes into the frame. Impossible to open from outside without smashing the glass.
Sure they did not want the glass to smash, because they ran off, wussy wannabe burgler. 😄

@Gusman Hopefully, they don't come back!!

Does your neighborhood have kids? Look around for shoe prints.

Shoe prints can even determine if it was male or female.

Take pictures if any found and report them. Drop a coin beside them in the image for size comparison.

@DeWayfarer There are children here, but young ones. This was not the work of one of them. Took an amount of strength to make such an indentation. Concrete path so no foot prints.

@Gusman put salt or chalk on the concrete. That might even detour them if they notice it.

I'm glad they didn't break in, but what stopped them after going that far???
Gusman · 61-69, M
@Musicman Most likely the noise of the glass hitting the concrete. A block of 10 units,

@Gusman Thankfully they didn't get in and rob you.
