Huh?

@Northwest That 'clavicular' mensmaxxing gross guy is accused of raping a 17 y/o at his parents house and has been ordered to surrender his passport. We just wondered if authorities actually check a person has one first before making such an order, or if it's just presumed everyone has one?

@mksworld Braden Eric Peters is reported to have travelled internationally in the news. The Prosecution usually does discovery and ask for a passport, but it's largely an "honor" system, but the defense attorney could be disbarred if they claim there is no passport and that turned out to be true.

@mksworld Oh d4mn, I didn't know this was about someone specific.
What I said though is true in general but with these rich b4stards, influencers, etc, we already know they never get more than a slap on the wrist for their crimes.
That is assuming the stories of their crimes are not fabricated or exaggerated.

They cannot take something you do not even have.
One could be barred from getting a passport for whatever duration the situation lasts, well like say it is because of back taxes, you could be disallowed to even get one until the tax debt is settled.

@SunSetStrut You, Yes, Australian authorities can legally stop you from leaving the country for a holiday if you have significant unpaid government or tax debts, a bankrupt person can only leave with permission from the bankruptcy trustee, the Child Support Registrar can issue a Departure Prohibition Order (DPO) that legally stops you from leaving the country for a holiday

@SirNedKelly Yeah it is the same way in America.
But yeah all I was saying was that they cannot take a passport that someone doesn't even have, but they can stop someone from getting one.

It's probably a standard thing when someone is considered a flight risk, but not everyone has a passport. I don't (not since 2006 when my last one expired).
ArishMell · 70-79, M
The order can be made as a matter of course, but if the person has no passport it is obviously superfluous in that case.
