Next up for the US

Kids will be losing hands, feet, legs, arms, life in large machines.

Didn't realize they wanted to go all the way back to the 1800's workhouses.

ETA: children already work the farms, btw. The child labor laws do not extend to children on farms. This means that lots of immigrant children already work long hot hours in fields picking, often living in subhumane housing provided by the farm. https://www.hrw.org/news/2011/11/17/child-farmworkers-united-states-worst-form-child-labor

We advanced very far in occupational safety over he past 100 years. I see us regressing way too rapidly!

@FoxyQueen The destruction of the US Union system lays at the feet of Ronald Reagan when he declared war on unions when he fired the air traffic controllers. The unions also became more involved in raising their salaries, not that it was wrong, but neglected the safety component!

@samueltyler2 A union can focus on numerous things, like working conditions. The failure to have the union work on that along with other needs are solely up to the members to have not made important. A union can only work on what things they have been asked to work on.

@FoxyQueen i understand, i am just stating the facts. I treated many laborers for job-induced injuries, their unions were not terribly helpful!
Moreover, even with any legal, moral, ethical issues aside, I can't see random, potentially resentful kids developing the expertise, attention span and work ethic to maintain something like premium wine vineyards, particularly just for short windows like summer breaks

That could possibly be a very costly blunder for a vineyard / winery

Never mind school summer breaks should be shortened in the first place, education should be more rigorous and have more continuity, kids don't learn and retain enough as it is, particularly with dubious distractions like high school sports ... no wonder voting age adults in the US often sound like complete idiots when quizzed about candidates or how government / the economy / the climate actually works

@BlueGreenGrey the Florida legislation has already lowered the age for children to work!
@samueltyler2 everything that happens in DeSantistan just makes me facepalm repeatedly

Stop worrying about this. It wont happen. Those kids will bleed out before a doctor ever gets to see them in hospital..😷

Ignorance reigns in these people.
