The Age of Consent is the age at which a young person can legally consent to any kind of sexual activity for themselves, ranging from kissing to fondling to having sexual intercourse.

The Age of Consent is also the age where a parent is no longer legally responsible for their young person's conduct in life, thereby releasing the parents from possible litigation that may have been caused by their kid.

When a child reaches the Age of Consent, they no longer need permission from a parent or guardian to make life-altering decisions for themselves.

@swirlie My oldest step sister is a retired county prosecutor from 1985 to her retirement in 2020, an 18 year old screwing a 16 year is still considered statutory rpe and will be prosecuted as such, my stepsister sent numerous 18 year olds to prison for such a fallacy.

If the State where this all took place had a legal age of consent that was older than 16, then in fact screwing a 16 year old would be considered rape. Not all States share the same legal age of consent and some States have an age of consent as old as 20 and 21!

My own mother had 3 kids by the time she was 20 because she got married when she was 17 and wasn't even pregnant at the time!

Is it some old guy in his mid-20's who's taking advantage of an 18 year old girl because she's of legal age of consent in your State and he knows it? Is that what you're referring to when you say "taking advantage of it"?

Okay, understand now. First of all, you are talking about two different things here but referring to both of them as being one in the same. They are not.

Let's start with official definitions.

The Age of Consent is the minimum age for a person to consent to having sexual relations with another person who is at least of the age of consent.

The Age of Consent in the State of Nevada is 16.

That means a girl who resides in Nevada can provide consent for herself when it comes to her giving consent to having sex with someone else of legal age.

She cannot however, provide her own consent for her having sex with someone who has not yet reached the age of 16. If she violated that law, SHE would be charged with rape.

The Age of Consent therefore, refers strictly to acts of sex, nothing else.

The Age of Majority however, does not mean the same thing as The Age of Consent.

The Age of Majority is the age where a minor becomes an adult by law.

In the State of Nevada the Age of Majority is 18.

What this means is, any person who is UNDER the age of 18 in Nevada is still legally a minor, not an adult. Anyone who is a minor in the State of Nevada cannot get married until they reach the Age of Majority of 18. That is the law.

Your 16 year old girl in the example can therefore consent to having sex with someone who is also at least 16 years of age or older, but she cannot give consent to getting married until she turns 18, nor can her parents legally by-pass the Age of Majority law by consenting to her getting married BEFORE she turns 18.

Even if the girl is pregnant and became pregnant when she was 16 and legally provided consent to having sex with a guy who then got her pregnant, she cannot marry the guy until she turns 18 which also applies to him.

She would have to wait until she is 18 before she could actually get married, which would mean she'd be accompanied by her 2 year old on her wedding day.

In your example above, the girl's parents cannot give consent for a minor to get married, nor does that minor require her parent's consent for marriage once she turns 18 and instantly becomes a legal adult.
