Bullshit. Nobody has to be bitten first. A vicious animal attacking someone is more than enough reason to put it down. I suppose they should wait until stabbed or shot before returning fire too? The whole concept of self defense is to prevent being injured, not to let yourself be injured before acting. If you want to protect your animal, keep it under your control.

@Alabamarednek Sorry, I don't know what kind of la-la land you live in. Evidently, you know very little about the law. I have shot dogs who were attacking me or another and charged the owners of the dogs with harboring vicious unrestrained animals. Convicted them too. One officer, who was bitten, successfully sued the owner afterward as well. I do not put the life of the animal over the lives of human beings. Any human being, that includes cops. Nobody has to stand still or ask for someone's permission, written or otherwise, before defending themself while being attacked.....in any job.
I don't care how afraid he was. Having to just suck it up and face that fears without such conduct it part of the dam job police officers signed up for. Thwy have the freedom to quit. Members of rhe real military don't have that freedom.
