True or False, ICE is independant of NYPD?

I keep getting different reports, some saying it's only 200 people who were detained by ICE. Some saying it's in the thousands and they get deported to countries that arent their home. It's so confusing to me, and the NYPD keeps implying on the news that they aren't connected to ICE bur i'm not sure what to believe.

Not to nitpick with acronyms snd terminologies, but wouldn't it make more sense to be called the "U.S.I.C.E?"
