Idk. I know there is a moral high ground to it and I don't drink so while it doesn't affect me it seems just.

Actually this may be not a bad idea.

Not really, it's too specific. I don't like placing a higher value on one life than another. A lot of people have others depending on them for financial support and/or physical care, not to mention love. There should be severe penalties for taking anyone's life because of careless actions.

At first, I thought, yes, this is good, but what if they have a good insurance policy, and the family are financially stable, or they are already wealthy? I think it’s a very good deterrent, but do murderers pay child support too? I don’t think they do, so it seems an unbalanced penalty.

Well-intentioned, but how is someone convicted of vehicular homicide doing years in prison going to pay? By the time they get out, the kids will be well into adulthood.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@MikeSp assets liquidized and proceeds going to child support.
MikeSp · 56-60, M
@cherokeepatti That could work depending on the person, but most addicted people I have met have such flawed lives that they don't have a pot to piss in, as the old-timers would say.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@MikeSp Alice Walton is an example of someone who caused the death of someone while she was drunk driving. Do you think someone like her should pay child support to the children of the deceased, if there were any children?
Fishy · 36-40, F
Haven't given it that much thought , but if it deters people from drink driving and holds them responsible if they do drink and drive,
Then sure, why not?
Then sure, why not?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Fishy it probably won’t is the sad thing.
BizSuitStacy · M
This might have some merit.
Peaches · F
I think it's a great idea! 😊

Somebody's thinking.
Makes sense….

No
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
That would be okay with me. It would also be okay with me if the drunk driver was charged with murder if they killed someone.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@Roadsterrider They usually are.
MrAboo · 36-40, M
Yes I do. Should be national law
NoGamesTolerated · F
Sounds good to me.
4meAndyou · F
Good luck getting any money out of an habitual drunk.
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
Only fair.
AnOldFriend · 61-69, M
In my world a drunk driver should be put to death, or at least put in prison forever, therefore being unable to earn a living and pay child support.
Also, the drunk driver could hold a grudge against the unknown child and could become a danger to them, but at least some law maker is at least trying to think of more ways to discourage drunk driving.
