"Separate" is one I get wrong. I want it to be "seperate", which is how I pronounce it.
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@hunkalove Why do you want it to be "seperate"? It doesn't look right.
hunkalove · 61-69, M
@HairbrushDiva But it sounds right. I grew up in hillbilly country. I pronounce it "sep-er-ut".
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@hunkalove The second syllable (with the "a" in it) tends to be squeezed out, most people say "seprate".
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
I think I might spell more words incorrectly and often without to know because English is not my mother language.

Lilymoon · F
No actually my spelling is excellent. Math on the other hand is another story. 😝
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M
Their and neighbor
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@Eddiesolds "Neighbor" is the American way of spelling "neighbour". Both are acceptable.
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M
@HairbrushDiva I didnt know that.Thanks!
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@Eddiesolds I'm English so I spell words the conventional English way but I don't say American spellings are incorrect, they are just seen as alternative spellings. It's all about convention.
LovelySoul · 46-50, F
To, too, ugh I have to think way too long
akindheart · 61-69, F

I’ve used mnemonic devices to help with certain words.
I used to confuse desert and dessert for years. I then remembered that dessert is something extra after dinner; so an extra “s”.
With separate, I learned that it contains “a rat” (sepARATe).

I sometimes spell "particularly" as "particularily".

Very many words I spell incorrectly.
