Do you know, The English Language Originally, originally originated from German. Here is a dialect from 9th Century.


Here was some development. 450 to 1100 or 1300 AD.


Then England was taken over by the French, and here's how the then English looked like.

English is weird. It's Germanic in structure, and French in vocabulary.

@Hopelandia English was not only largely influenced by French, but also Celtic languages, Latin and Greek.
Most technological, medical and legal terms are in Latin or Greek.

@basilfawlty89 True, but I'm always amazed that any English word ending in -ence, -ance, -ition, -ation, -ible or -able is essentially the same in French (and Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese); the only difference being the pronunciation.
