Be clear in your statement, English is not my first language!

My first language is actually Slovak, my Mun and Dad speak it to each other and I am very proficient too, but since age six I have been speaking Ukrainian 馃嚭馃嚘 for school, and I also have Russian 馃嚪馃嚭, English 馃彺鬆仹鬆仮鬆仴鬆伄鬆仹鬆伩, Spanish 馃嚜馃嚫-both Catalan and Castellano, German 馃嚛馃嚜 and some Polish 馃嚨馃嚤 and some languages you won鈥檛 of heard of, dialects really.

Although my English is good there are some nuances I don鈥檛 understand so I can鈥檛 really understand what you might mean when you say them. Be patient and concise please!

How are we to know what you understand or do not understand? You will also need to seek clarification.
Smidke26-30, F
@Zeusdelight Which I do do!

What she wants you to do Zeus, is write with clearly written English, not short forms of American or Australian slang mixed with internet text-speak.

If she can write a post in English which you obviously responded to, wouldn't it make sense that she knows how to speak English?

@SandWitch There are many people on SW that I respond to who write in a way that I understand but would not call plain English. That is part of interacting here. We try to interpret what people are saying and sometimes we get it right and sometimes not.

We all have to be tolerant of the fact that our communication here can be affected by cultural nuances and our varying knowledge of the language we try to communicate in.

What will be clear communication to one person may be mystifying to another. So it is up to communication partners to work out how to clearly communicate between them.

I have no idea whether a person knows how to speak English from communications on here.

If @Smidke clearly stated in her opening post, "Be clear in your statement, English is not my first language!", would that not tell you that she knows how to speak English from that one written communication alone which you obviously responded to in English, but also admitted to me that you have no idea whether a person knows how to speak English or not?

I have a brilliant idea that may help you, Zeus!

Rather than wasting your time speculating with me about the unknown communications skills held by @Smidke in her English-written thread here, why don't you just write something of relevance to @Smidke and then wait to see if she responds intelligently enough for your mind to decipher what her words must mean in English?

If you understand what she means and she understands what you are trying to convey back to her in English, then in all probability, you are good to go!
Zeusdelight61-69, M
@SandWitch I have no further interest in talking to you about this.

Smidke seems to know what I am saying given her reaction to what I have said.

I have chatted with Smidke about several things.

Bye

Oh good! Then I'm very happy that my suggestion to you worked! Be well!
