Do you cringe when you hear someone say "For all INTENSIVE purposes?"

[c=800000]The saying is "For all INTENTS and purposes." [/c]
There. NOW I can sleep well, tonight.

[c=800000]According to grammarly.com, the phrase was originally used in sixteenth century English law as "to all intents, constructions and purposes." it was later shortened to the more popular "For (or, to) all intents and purposes."

@ProfessorPlum77 a jack of all trades is a master of none, but better than a master of one.

Blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb (Blood is thicker than water)

Early bird gets the worm but the 2nd mouse gets the cheese.

ArishMell · 70-79, M
I do wonder if any of the last two or three generations were taught to understand words!
ServantOfTheGoddess · 61-69, M

I could care less
LibertineWolf · 51-55, M
I had a few corporate bosses in the past that always said that. They both disappeared ironically on the same night. 🤷🏻‍♂️
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@LibertineWolf [c=800000]Wow! THAT is odd.
Do you surmise they were two gay lovers that ran off together?
Or, something much more nefarious? [/c]
MartinII · 70-79, M
Actually the phrase is “to all intents and purposes”. That’s what I was taught, anyway.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@MartinII It is. People who say "intensive" instead might have mis-heard it in the first place, and continue to make the mistake without thinking, as it's a cliche.

A bit like that malapropism common among males, of "prostrate" problems.
ProfessorPlum77 · 70-79, MVIP
@ArishMell Yes, that is another one.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
Well for all ... No need to throw things!!! 🤕
