Takeaway? That's food, innit?! [I Speak Old English]

There was a time when takeaway meant food you bought and took with you. Now it means summary of key points from dense material, it seems (emphasis on dense).

I quote: "Key takeaways from Donald Trump’s public mauling of Mitch McConnell," The Independent newspaper, today. I wonder if there's a burger in there, given it's American. I'm guessing sushi's not an option ;-)

they can wrap takeaway fish and chips in a takeaway news article
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@adorbz You gotta be careful with that, wrapping fish and chips for too long makes the breading get soggy.
@BlueMetalChick my chippy uses cardboard boxes

@adorbz This makes sense to me 😆

@BlueMetalChick For a long time I was missing the chips I remembered from years ago. I'm not a big fan of crispy chips, prefer them a little bit soggy (yeah, I'm weird that way). Anyway, got some chips from the local takeaway and instead of putting them in one of those horrible styrofoam boxes, they wrapped them in paper. Have to admit that I was in heaven, nice soggy chips just like I remembered. And I don't mind the fish a bit that way either.

@Bushranger I can't say I wouldn't eat fish if the breading was subpar because honestly, I will eat absolutely anything that swims, cooked any type of way, even if it isn't cooked at all. In fact, I prefer a lot of fish to be raw, especially yellowtail and squid. But I do have my preferences, and when it comes to fried fish, I like the breading to be crispy.

@BlueMetalChick I haven't come across many places that do a good crisp batter (we don't call it breading over here). As a kid, we used to have fish and chips, sometimes with Balmain Bugs for an extra treat, wrapped in news paper every Friday night. By the time it got home, it was all steamed in the paper, but I loved it. Ah, I miss those times; the sixties was a long time ago, lol.

@Bushranger Actually I think it's called batter over here too. Breading is for fried chicken, but I forget that half the time lol

@Bushranger when i go to Norfolk there is an amazing chippie who cooks the fish and chips in beef dripping. There is always a long wait though as it is so popular, but the food is crispy and delicious.

@Raine So what happened 8 years ago when you were in trouble for saying to your mum ask your husband ?
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@Raine I've always wanted to try genuine English (yes, I'm talking about the country and not confusing it with The United Kingdom) fish and chips. Especially the ones done in beef fat.

@Bushranger I guess they are not very healthy, but they are much more tasty than others. The older folk say all the fish and chips were cooked like this once.
