Unfortunately American slang could never truly be classed as “ the English language “ just a bad interpretation of English

It’s just how the language has evolved over the hundreds of year . Migration has had this impact world wide , but it’s sad very few Americans and British people learn a second or third language , because they feel it’s not necessary to do so as most other nations speak “English “ puts other nations ahead of us all sometimes
