What was the best way you learned a language

I use to speak quite a bit of Spanish. But I haven’t had anyone to talk fluently to. Now that I’m mostly in Spanish/English speaking cities I find it really needed. How did you learn your 2nd language.

Ever since my childhood, I've always had a knack for learning foreign languages.

English is my first language by default, but over the years, I have learned a little bit of French, Spanish, German, Italian and Japanese.

Back in the early days of my childhood, I started picking up on French from a guy who was helping my parents doing some drywall work.

He spoke French and I was intrigued.

It was sometime later when I started the First Grade, that I was in a French Immersion program all throughout Grade School up until the 8th Grade.

Also, as I was learning French I gradually picked up on a few words of Spanish, German and Italian among other languages.

It was in my High School years, that I wanted to challenge myself by learning Japanese.

The thing that motivated me at the time, was watching a few Japanese films and from that point forward, I was hooked.

Also, there was an instructional program on television called Let's Learn Japanese, which at the time, was on every thursday at 1:30 PM.

Every chance I got, I would skip school every Thursday to watch it and videotape it so I could rewatch it at my leisure. (this was before YouTube was even a thing)

@Sidewinder wow that’s impressive. Did you keep up with any of the languages?
