What are the languages of the future ?

Do you think there are languages that will die ?
deadgerbil · 22-25
Languages that are endangered now have a chance of dying. People are getting better at preserving languages though so idk how many will die/become lost. English will be the dominant language for the foreseeable future. I can't really see Chinese taking over, given that their dialects aren't even mutually intelligible with each other.

@Moon3624 Yeah Chinese is other worldly with its difficulty. You can learn Chinese in school and think "I'm going to visit China" just find out you're surrounded by people who speak a different dialect and you can't understand anything aside from writing.

I wonder how much the Chinese population will continue to grow. Generally, as countries become more developed, they begin to level off and tend to shrink. Japan is an extreme case of that where their population decrease and aging population is becoming a real issue

@deadgerbil I clicked on this thinking "hehe I'm Irish, this will be easy!"

It was not easy...

Of the world's several thousand languages, most are endangered and spoken by small tribal groups. I think many of those languages will die as people learn to speak the dominant language of their nation or English, which is becoming the dominant language of the world. Language is a tool and people tend to learn the language that will help them get ahead in life. An endangered language often isn't much help, though I support efforts to preserve them.

Languages die every year.

The major languages will conjoin and become simpler over time.

@SinlessOnslaught
That is unfortunate.
Also Gallic I feel like it’s dying
I have been interested in it but I met many scots who can’t speak it
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@Moon3624 Yeah Gaelic is unfortunately not going to last much longer.

@Moon3624 Hardly any Scots speak Gaelic. Traditionally it was only spoken in some parts of Scotland, anyway.

all languages will die in the future. Communication will be more direct than any language.

One big monolanguage
Heritage languages like Gullah and Creole will probably die out. My generation was probably the last to grow up hearing them.
Moon3624 · 18-21, F
@bijouxbroussard awww
What kind of languages are they?
@Moon3624 Gullah is a patois that developed in some coastal and island areas of the U.S. South, spoken by some communities since slave days, with some roots in languages from the Congo and Sierra Leone.
The Creole language in Louisiana (that my father’s family spoke), developed there, with some terms brought from Haiti.
