Do Americans and Brits are speaking the same language?

I don't know why Americans called football as something like rugby while soccer is football as many Europe and Asian countries.
Wait, I list the words..
It gets me mixed up.

Lift=Elevator?
Trousers=Pants?
Holiday=Vacation? They are same meaning. How can you be confused?
Football=Soccer
Bin/Dustbin=Trash can?
Autumn=Fall?
Toilet=Restroom? How can you rest in a toilet? Hmm. 🤔
Aluminium=Aluminum?
Petrol=Gas?

Etc..

Blimey, I need to learn American English.
A bit of explanation.

Here, if you ask someone for a lift, you are asking for a ride in their car.

A holiday is a period of time that gives you the opportunity to take a vacation without losing pay.

Here in the US, when a man removes his trousers, he is often breathing in short pants.
@basilfawlty89 And that's fine with me.

@Mamapolo2016 i mean they’d be used in completely different contexts 😅 I am never gonna say I need a lift when I’m on the top floor and someone’s gonna be like uhhhh but how would an Uber get up here 🤔😝
@adorbz Never underestimate a drunken Uber-er.

They don’t speak the queen’s English
@Jenny1234 And why would we?

Nope - Americans speak American and not English😂
Simply because we felt like it.

Reading these comments I'm disappointed by the hatred people have for the people in the states.

Why?

The world's full of different peoples... cultures, languages, dialect.

Why do people hate that?

This is very disturbing.

😑😶

@PhaqueYou Don't get me wrong. It's not hatred. This is more like confusion to some part of cultures as you said. Which is why I am asking here because I know mostly users in this site are populated in US.

If this make you upset, I am apologise.
They wanted to be different.

I agree with you on soccer and restroom. Although, to be fair, the bathroom/restroom at home was one place that I could hide for a bit from the family. Public restrooms, no way.
@Jenny1234 Wow that's so rude of them.

@PhaqueYou I'm responding to @Jenny1234 comment.

@PhaqueYou so you think that treatment was okay?

If it's America, then you should be training to learn American English. But if not, then focus on British English because most other English-speaking countries use British English grammar and spelling standards.

When a British person uses the word candy outside of referring to candy floss

Depending.

Mostly slang is different.
Yes. Just different dialects.

Let’s talk about fanny…
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Well restroom isn't that unique, we use it here too or cloakroom in restaurants, because mentioning a toilet over food is considered impolite.
