Thanks for your input. We went. We offered our condolences. Our friend introduced us to her dad and we offered our condolences. They had food. A cantor from their congregation led a few readings and prayers. Our friend and her family was grateful we showed up. I'm glad we did. Rest in peace Karen.

It is a house of mourning. You are going there to help the family deal with their grief. There may be food, Jews tend to eat on various occasions, Shiva is one. It is sort of expected that you will eat something. Most often we bring ng some sweets or something to add to the food. We do not believe ng flowers. At around sundown there may be a short service of mourning.
