2 merchants are meeting..merchant A and merchant B A: how old are your 3 daughters ? B: if you add their ages they are 13... if you multiplay their ages you get my own age. A: well i need to know your age then B shows him without any commentary his passport where A can read the age. A: thats all good.. but to clearly solve this i need more information B: my oldest daughter plays the harp. A: ok, now its all clear to me.
@DS1980 this is not an easy puzzle... i never had anyone solve it without getting hints... so here is another hint: there is information given that you overread and dont recognize as information that is absolutely needed to solve it.... that what makes is such a nice puzzle
Although we don't know what the multiple is, we do know the guy still isn't sure. Therefore the multiple must leave us with more than one option. The only one doing so is 36, so we can narrow it down to either 9, 2 and 2 or 6, 6 and 1.
That's were the last hint comes in. The harp isn't important, but there is an eldest one. That means we can eliminate 6, 6 and 1 leaving us with 9, 2 and 2 as the correct ages.
