We were walking in the countryside when we saw dogs mating
.
My girlfriend asked, "How does the male know the female is ready?"
"He can smell it," I replied. "That's just nature."
A little later, we walked past a field where a ram was mating a ewe.
"And how does the ram know she's ready?" she asked.
"Same thing," I said, confidently. "It's all down to scent."
Then we saw a bull mating a cow.
"This is weird," she said, watching them. "Surely the bull can't smell that?"
"Oh, yes he can," I insisted. "It's nature. All animals can smell when the female is ready for sex."
After the walk, I dropped her home and kissed her goodbye.
"Take care," she said, "and you should probably get tested for Covid-19."
"Why would you say that?" I asked, confused.
She replied, "Because you seem to have lost your sense of smell."
