Amazon weather report
While preparing to build a highway deep in the Amazon rainforest, a group of engineers was surprised by an unexpected visitor—a local native. He approached them and calmly warned that heavy rain would arrive in two hours, urging them to take shelter. The engineers glanced up at the perfectly clear sky, dismissed the warning, and continued their work. Sure enough, two hours later, the skies opened, and a torrential downpour soaked the site.
The next day, the native returned with another prediction: “You’ll have four days of sunshine.” Skeptical but intrigued, the engineers noted the forecast—and for the next four days, the weather was exactly as he said, clear and sunny. On the fifth morning, he came again and told them it would be too hot to work in the afternoon. True to his word, the heat became unbearable by midday.
Impressed by the man’s accuracy, the lead engineer sent his junior team to seek out the native each morning, offering him a small cash gift in exchange for the daily weather forecast. This routine continued for three months, and the engineers found his predictions invaluable as they worked on the project.
One morning, as the juniors arrived to make their usual request, the wise man greeted them with some unfortunate news. After accepting their gift, he said, “My radio ran out of batteries last night. I didn’t hear the weather forecast, so I can’t help you today.”
