With email, you have a written record, unlike sms where things vanish after a while. I have things in my email dating back decades. Things like license keys and stuff that I do not want to lose, and I change computers frequently so it is best to have it all stored on the web.

@JamesBugman license keys for what? Most software nowadays already have them stored on servers of the companies that provide them.
