I don't know about the internet in general, but I know that social media has ruined the internet. It used to be about forums, individual people, and community. Now all that has been ruined due to social media and companies.
@Bri89 I'm betting you're not old enough to remember BBSes, but they were great. Local servers, hosted on one person's computer, that other people could dial into, one at a time, and leave messages for each other.
