Russian hackers on SW???

Back when Russia first invaded Ukraine I expressed my support for the Ukrainian people and I changed my profile picture to an image of the U.S. and Ukrainian flags. Recently someone commented on that image in my photos and called me a "nazi". I deleted the comment and forgot about it, then a few days ago the same person sent me a private message calling me a "gross nazi". After that I went ahead and blocked the person to avoid any further name calling but it left me wondering if the Russian government has put people on the site for the purpose of attacking people who sympathize with Ukraine.

Idk if they're hackers, but there's a decent amount of people here who are of a certain political persuasion that lends them to believe some really stupid crap when it comes to Ukraine

One idiot on here who isn't a hacker or bot tried to say way back in May that Russia's annual Victory Day celebrations(victory over Nazi Germany) somehow meant that Ukraine's defeat was right around the corner.

Then there's another guy on here who is a legit idiot who said that Ukraine is on the side of the devil and the angles are on the side of Russia, and that Russia's invasion is going extremely well, despite all the retreats, set backs, and Russia's own admissions that the war is taking way longer than expected.

@deadgerbil yes--I talked with them as well...

Many conservatives have turned on Ukraine becsuse Zelensky isn't bigoted enough.
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Doomflower Or because Putin is the kind of leader they get wet thinking of. Authoritarian, strongly conservative, anti-gay, anti-democracy..

They could just move to Russia and do everyone a favor lol
Gross nazi? Isn't that redundant?

Whether sponsored by a government or self-nominated, such users seem to believe that aggressive name-calling will win others to their cause.

They baffle me.

@Fable I am automatically resistant to a 'philosophy' that thinks aggression is the best recruiting tool. It means they know they can't persuade you - they have to scare you into it.

I do believe that some Russian trolls spend some time here as a small part of a general campaign to use social media to influence Americans' opinions about our own government.

One in particular is very active prior to US elections and then vanishes for a long time.

As a reminder, this is a tiny, innocuous site that would never, ever be on the radar of "bad actors." You ran in to a troll, someone unbalanced or just a dick. It happens.

There are Putin fanboys all over this site tugging themselves raw every time Putin rocket attacks a shopping centre or an apartment block in the Ukraine.

Not “if”, they have. All government agencies have social media influencers to control the narrative online. US, Russia and France are very aggressive on that.

I think these russian clowns are on most media, plenty on quora. They are just pathetic and not right in the head

While replies to my posts at the time were not that bad, i did receive messages from pro-Russians afterwards...it could be either--Russian hackers, or people there or in other places sympathetic to Russia. i got into it with someone who insisted the US was just as evil, inflicting death on many places we have invaded the last 50 years or so. I told them i did not disagree--I opposed the Iraq invasions and also Afghanistan, as well as Vietnam...but I was still categorized as part of the US problem.
Seems something is in the air, leave the opposition before you do not have a coice.

@Fable Sounds like the Russian government has a serious inferiority complex
