Oh The Irony (Twitter Ownership)

Lots of speculation about what Elon Musk means by "free speech", and his ability as a Personnnel Director, but I have just learnt Twitter's other primary owner is the Royal Family of that bastion of democracy and civilised protection of opposing political and religious views.....

.... Saudi Arabia.

Advertising and the mighty advertising dollar will determine whether Twitter lives or dies.
If advertisers decide that they don’t want to be associated with the right wing extremists views of Twitter users they will leave and kill Twitters advertising revenue.

Much like Facebook, Twitters financial success is measured by advertising revenue.

To all app users on this forum, if you want to keep your app usage private from prying eyes click the “do not track” option when ever you install any app on your phone. This blocks your app usage habits from advertising and other prying eyes.

And this surprises who?? Twitter has long been an unofficial lever for tearing America apart.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman I think when the internet came to be, and more specifically social media, there was almost an "innocence" about it. I don't think the powers that be really acknowledged the potential for weaponization. Their focus was on monetization. And we've learned they go hand in hand.

@whowasthatmaskedman That was not what I said, but I agree about the money. To be fair to the Internet all that does is make it far easier to create and deepen divisions, but that's because the individual [anti]social-media companies and ISPs do not do enough to moderate the contents.
I wonder how much longer it'll take for Musk's right-wing fans to realize that Twitter's customers are the advertisers — who don't like controversy — while they themselves are Twitter's product.

@ElwoodBlues Whatever their personal politics, that's so of data-harvesting Facebook, Instagram, Google etc. users too.
@ArishMell True. But some folks seem to expect Twitter to be fundamentally different after the Musk purchase.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@ElwoodBlues Well, we will see. I think I am glad I do not use it. (Nor Facebook & Instagram come to that.)

I read that there's some noise coming from Democrats on the Hill that they're looking at an investigation. As they should. I wonder if the America First crowd has a problem with that? Even though I'm SURE they do.

His tweet justifying the potential paid "blue tick" is also hilarious:

@GermanAf Is that his usual level? Sigh......
GermanAf · 26-30, M
@ArishMell This is the first time I visited his twitter account and it's all like this. Non stop.

I don't understand how he does it. There's tweets every hour or so, maybe more. It's all nonsensical rambling and """"memes""""
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@GermanAf It makes me wonder why he's bought the site. It's not as if he's short of a dollar or two. Politics perhaps?

One thing he could do of value though, is root out and permanently ban the "disaster trolls" who stalk the injured victims or the bereaved, of disasters and atrocities; calling them liars, making money out of their suffering. Not only despicable themselves but they gather around them fan-clubs of equally-cowardly bullies joining the abuse and stalking.

You've had that appalling Alex Jones in the USA, though on some radio or TV show. We've now something of a copycat called, or at least using the name, Richard Harris, in Britain, doing much the same mainly on-line to the victims of the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017, of the audience leaving at the end of Ariana Grande's concert. He's even been revealed as planting a hidden camera to spy on one girl, 14 at the time the bomb gave her horrific head injuries and disabled her father. Why? To make money from them by collecting enough guttersnipe, pig-ignorant fans to sell them his literature and merchandise pushing his cruel lies.

It's time the social-media companies and ISPs started to show some morality and courage and not only remove the offensive posts, but also their accounts and future access, for life, circulating their identities to their co-companies and rivals alike; and if an offence such as incitement to violence has been committed, to the Police.

I know in many cases it might only be possible to identify the source computer or 'phone; but that should be enough; but if it is not the sender's own instrument, it would be for the owner to track down and deal with the perpetrator.
