Have you had someone here tell you they are going to give up?

A thirty to forty years old man has told me this and I am not sure if he is spinning a line that I would think incredibly harsh and emotional, or if he is serious about ending his life.

It’s very difficult 😣

if it's not someone i have a strong attachment to i'd cut ties with the person. either they're serious and they need professional help that im not equipped to provide without potentially risking my own mental health or making things worse. or they're not serious and i don't want anyone who would use the idea of suicide, at best an empty gesture as a cry for help or at worst as attention seeking or manipulation.
