Have you had someone here tell you they are going to give up?

Regardless it's an unfair burden to place on a stranger,let alone one who is younger than you. He's emotionally manipulating you. If he seriously wants to end things he needs professional help,not you. You are not responsible for his actions.

if it's not someone i have a strong attachment to i'd cut ties with the person. either they're serious and they need professional help that im not equipped to provide without potentially risking my own mental health or making things worse. or they're not serious and i don't want anyone who would use the idea of suicide, at best an empty gesture as a cry for help or at worst as attention seeking or manipulation.

Yeah.
Unfortunately it is really hard to know if someone is serious or seeking attention. Either way it is too much to handle for me and I am just likely to report them as a suicide risk and cut connection.
