Brain Teaser

I must warn you first I don’t really know the answer: three men check in late one night at a motel. The Night mgr charges them each $10. For a total of $30.They pay and then go to their rooms. The manager forgot the weekday special is 3 rooms for $25. The mgr gives the bellboy $5 and says hey go tell the men it was only $25 and give them back $5. The bell boy decides to keep $2 and give each guy back a $1.
So the men now paid $9 each for a total of $27 and the bellboy kept $2. What happened to the other dollar?

It should have been the patrons paying $25 with the mgr getting $25 of that and the bellboy getting 0$.
The patrons actually paid $27 ($9 times three) from which the mgr got $25 and the bellboy got $2. There is no missing dollar.

It fell into the bottom of my handbag and lives there with half a kitkat, a toy hot wheels car, manky tissues, old parking receipts and a biro that doesn't have a middle.

The bell boys two dollars has to be added to the discount before adding the men's $3 and the bell boys $2 back.
It got absobed by the 'special'.

Patrons paid $30
$5 back 'would've' brought it back to $25 (the special)...but only three is given back, (25 + 3 = 28)

$28 paid by patrons
... and $2 left for the bellboy

- there is no missing dollar

@OogieBoogie you are correct, obviously there is no missing dollar. I disagree with your “$28 paid by patrons” statement. It is a “all in the way you figure it” answer. But you can’t deny each guest ended up paying $9 ea for a total of $27. But yes $27 minus $2 is $25 which is ultimately what went into the cash register (not $30).
