Have You Attended College?

If so, what was your major, and did you graduate?
Also, have you continued your education, and if so, in what way?
I studied social work at the University of Illinois in Chicago. I ended up being an LCSW for 11 years and now I teach social work.

@UpForItNow [c=004A59]Impressive. What kind of work do you do?[/c]
UpForItNow · 22-25, F
@SW-User I've had a career, 25 years this month, in the Australian government, to mid-management level, across a number of agencies, in analytical roles.
SW-User
@UpForItNow [c=004A59]Good for you. 25 years is a long time to stay in the same kind of work.[/c]
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
I'm in college right now studying computer science.

@SubstantialKick [c=004A59]Best of luck to you.[/c]

@SW-User [c=004A59]Yeah, I wondered how that was working out for students with the covid restrictions. It's too bad. Congrats on graduating! ⭐[/c]

I went to one year, then ended up moving to a different state. I just went right into work thereafter and took over the family business. I've taken writing courses online to help me with my book, along with business & accounting to help me run my business.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
I had a double major Economics and Accounting, but bailed out of the MBA program because I got a decent offer from a Wall Street investment bank. I’ve owned my own business and currently work as a General Sales Manager for a large international company.
thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
I have. I was an English/Education dual major to begin with and then switched to German language and culture. I never ended up graduating.

I've tried to begin studying again a couple of times but I have a hard time getting back into it. 🤷‍♂️

sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
Undergrad double major in International Relations and European History. And yes, went on to major in Security Studies in grad school. 🙂

You?
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@SW-User Oh! I'm sorry to hear about the health issues. I hope they have or do resolve soon or at least that they are tolerable. 🤗

What languages?

sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@SW-User Nice. I never studied German, but I grew up with a German mom & grandma and I'm fairly conversational (and with a distinctly Bavarian accent!) French, on the other hand, I did study all through middle school and high school. Again, I would say conversational, not truly fluent. And I've studied some Russian as well. 🙂
mylasttimehere · 26-30, M
Yes. The best college in my country too.

I think traditional education is a joke overall.
SW-User
@mylasttimehere [c=004A59]In my generation, they didn't prep us adequately for college, and nothing in collge prepared us for the workplace.[/c]
mylasttimehere · 26-30, M
@SW-User 🤔ok?
SW-User
@mylasttimehere [c=004A59] I'm sure things have changed since I went. The college I attended doesn't exist anymore.[/c]
summersong · F
First time I made it two years before dropping out (English secondary education major). I got my bachelors about 9 years ago (history/legal studies).
As my father lamented quite sarcastically’, being in the 60s...,”College!? Christ you’ll drop out before you drop in!”
I studied architecture and landscape architecture, but I did not graduate.
SW-User
@Nadie [c=004A59]One of my HS classmates went on to study landscape architecture. It was the first time I'd heard of it.[/c]
I did and graduated…. and have to do CE annually…
SW-User
@NoGamesTolerated [c=004A59]CE for your job? It's good to keep up with it.[/c]
Northwest · M
Physics. Ended up in the software industry, with a 1 year sabbatical doing IC design, and then a mix of software/hardware and system architecture. Went back to school for System Dynamics, paid for by my company.
SW-User
@Northwest [c=004A59]That's great that you got to work for a place that paid for some of the education.[/c]
Northwest · M
@SW-User It's standard for the tech industry.
SW-User
@Northwest [c=004A59]I think you're right about that. It's a different sort of situation.[/c]
ImRileyTheDog · 22-25, F
I plan to next year

I can’t this year
exexec · 61-69, C

SW-User
@exexec [c=004A59]So you're retired?[/c]
exexec · 61-69, C
@SW-User Yep, I'm done.
SW-User
@exexec [c=004A59]Same here.[/c]
SweetMae · 70-79, F
I took two or three courses but I didn't get enough credit for one semester.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@SW-User Yes, I would like to study art and art history.
SW-User
@SweetMae [c=004A59]I've thought I'd like to do that too.[/c]

Bachelors in Aerospace Engineering, then Bachelors and Masters in Nursing.
SW-User
@spjennifer [c=004A59]That's quite a switch. So you're working as a nurse now?[/c]
spjennifer · 56-60, T
@SW-User Yes, it was, I joined the Army as a combat medic after a couple of years in Engineering, changed Service to the Air Force, got my Nursing degrees and retired in 2015 after 30 years, still serving in the Reserves though.
Azlotto · M
I did. I'm now an obsolete electronic engineer.
SW-User
@Azlotto [c=004A59]Obsolete why? Are they not hiring in that field anymore?[/c]
