How different are you now from your younger self?

Let's say about twenty years ago, if you're old enough...

I'm very different, in terms of everything from religious views to political views.

Not as fit, a bit frayed round the edges but generally reasonably healthy for a novice septagenarian.

My political views have changed over the years with experience. So what I might have supported in my twenties, I now oppose from them having proven faulty; but do understand them better.

I stopped being religious even to the rather nominal level I was, when about twelve, with a mild Anglican background. I have though come to understand religion generally more than I used to. Religion, not 'a' or 'the' religion. One effect is that I can step back from but see through some of the frankly unpleasant, highly-binary arguing about it on here.

Experience has also given me a healthy scepticism about the short-termism and the "now we all", "because we can" and "must have" attitudes, promulgated by self-styled "lifestyle columnists" and unreconstructed gadget-freaks.

I stay steadfast to my interests and hobbies outside of those, though.

Conventional is a word to be interpreted according to your circle of friends, Poppies. You have adapted to circumstance and that set of circumstances has given you a broader perspective on what society is about: That it is not just the way your parents lived in it, but it has many facets that are 'different' but not wrong.
I'll bet that if you think hard about your 'core values' that you'll find they still stand as they were.

I know that for myself, I'm much more accepting and forgiving of others (and myself) now than i ever was even into my 50's. But when the pressure is on me, I revert back to expecting people to automatically respect others
- that value was my 'core value' and I get annoyed if I find people infringing on respect.

Slower, less fit, less energetic than I was 20 years ago, but not too bad for my age I hope. Temperamentally similar, and rather to my surprise, no less inclined to worry. Political attitudes broadly unchanged over the last 40 years, though quite different from what they were 50 years ago. Main interests the same as they always have been.

Slower, heavier, in more pain, sober.

i am much calmer and much smarter

religious views are the exact same
political views are vastly different. I used to be more liberal. safe to say you get wiser as you age

I used to be a lot more trusting and social. I actually liked being around people and trying to please others.

everything i ever did wrong was by prioritizing my selfish needs and insecurities. took a long time to deprogram myself. now i act less on ego and jealousy and i'm a lot happier for it
