Why do so many people view every issue through the lens of politics, identity, or ideology?

our society, at least in USA, has become terribly polarized. It may have been slightly so befopre, but since 2008 the division has gotten far worse.
@samueltyler2 I couldn't have said it any better. It's why I don't discuss my political veiws anymore with strangers or others that shut me down before listening. I'd rather listen and keep my mouth shut because I don't want to add fuel to the fire. I feel we're not here to kill each other. We are here to HEAL each other.

@samueltyler2 do you think polarisation has escalated that it feels like identity and ideology aren’t just political positions, they’ve become personality traits, how so?
