One of the best pieces of advice I ever got was from an older (I was in my 30's at the time and she was 60 something) lady - she was my bosses secretary (yes, them called them secretaries back then). I was going through a particularly hard time with a bunch of personal stuff and every morning I'd come in with a frown, sometimes a scowl on my face. Finally, after about a week or so of my grumpy butt, she told me "Smile damnit!" She followed it up with "Just try it for one week - smile no matter how you feel. I promise you it will make a big difference."
She was 100% right. It changed my outlook, how I felt about life and the bonus was it changed how people perceived and treated me.
