I have never read about this but my guess its a metaphor for describing the soul or self as a fraction of the whole, god the creator.

@Jdanielb Whatever they had. Most of the Old Testament's stories are recycled from other civilizations.
@Crazywaterspring yes.. allegorical stories to teach us about ourselves do tend to get recycled and reused, also looked at from different ways and told in new stories with the same heart behind them.

I mean in my own studies of the bible I've found the fairy tales and movies , Cinderella, beauty and the beast, avatar and much much more..
