I've sometimes wondered whether wisdom is wasted on the old: we've run out of time and energy to take advantage of it.

I confess I don't find oldies ugly. Rather all that experience sagging in our wrinkles and dangly bits is beautiful in and of itself.
Do we dislike the rose when it's petals droop, wilt and drop -- when all that while it's fragrance only grows richer and more enticing? I keep my roses on the table till the last scent is gone, and then return them to the bed they grew from.

@hartfire I collect wild flowers and display them outside on an empty table with two empty chairs that face the country road. I too also love the fallen leaves and petals and their display of life full circle
