How Old Are You? I Am Old Enough To Remember When I Could Mail A Letter For 5 Cents…

@MarineBob When I worked at the university & rented an apartment from the university I would mail the rent check to them. I was working in athletic and there was a mail box outside and I dropped my bill in there, very convenient. One day I got a notice that my rent was overdue. I called them and they hadn’t received it so I called the bank and had a stop put on the check (it hadn’t cleared) and walked over to the bursar’s office and paid in person at lunch. About 3 weeks later the campus newspaper had a story about mail being stolen and an arrest and it was a student that they had hired to go around and collect all of the mail at the various mail boxes (and take it the central post office on campus) and also drop off the mail in the various dorm areas. I figure he was mostly targeting mail that was going to the students especially cards in colored envelopes because grandma’s love to tuck a bill or two in a card when they send one.
