Seeing so many religious artifacts or canvases with Bible quotes around the house.
Listen, I don’t have anything against religion, but in my personal experience… people that have their homes draped in Jesus and Scripture are literally always the worst and most hateful people you will ever met. I feel like the bigger the external display of somebody’s faith is, the less those Christian values are actually being practiced in daily life.
I like 'lived in' and relaxed, but worry about unclean surfaces and dirty crockery lying around well after a meal has been consumed. I have to work past that to see the people in all their complexity.
@FreddieUK yes…I mean sometimes people may not have seen it though …I’m talking when you can tell it’s been there for a while.
I I Used to visit a man that was very lonley, I’d pop in for a cup of tea…he’d take used tea bags that he’d squish against the tiles above the sink and then reuse them and make tea for me in a stained cup. It was gross but I felt sorry for him….
@InterdimensionalSideEye That's commitment. I have done that kind of visiting and a tip I picked off professionals is that in these circumstances, always politely refuse 'because I just had one before arriving'. That way you avoid sickness.
Some years ago a classmate invited me to her home after class. I also knew her brother and they were nice to me. When I went into their living room, I was shocked to see a Confederate battle flag over the fireplace. As politely as I could manage, I excused myself, saying I needed to get home. 😞
@bijouxbroussard Yeah, I completely understand. I would have left too. I probably wouldn’t have confronted them or anything, but I would have known right then and there that these are not people I want to invest a lot of time into forming a friendship with.
I don't mind cluttered or even dirty but there's like... a kind of squalor and filth that sets my alarm bells off of someone really not being okay. Like something is wrong here.
On the extreme other end I really dislike tacky displays of wealth or worse yet - displays of wealth devoid of any taste. Like I own this because its expensive not because I have any particular sense of what is nice or not.
And overt displays of the kinds of politics that give me the ick.
@uncalled4 oh man…I hate garden gnomes. My brother in law used to buy me one for my birthday each year just because of it…it was a standing joke. Then a hailstorm came and took them all out…yay. Sadly he passed a few years ago but it was a funny story - thanks for reminding me.
