Just a helpful hint for a slow-moving drain

Before dumping chemicals down the drain, try closing the drain and fill the entire sink with hot water. Once filled, shut off the water and open the drain. The weight of the water will force out any clogs. You may have to do this twice.

I did this to my bathroom sink yesterday, and it worked like a charm.

[A note from a magazine or paper Mom had]

Boil 2 qts water.

Measure 1/2 c EACH of
- baking soda
- salt
- white vinegar

Dump the baking soda & salt down the drain.
Add the vinegar; let it set & foam for a few mins.

Then pour the boiling water in after it.

Hot water dissolves the grease plug. The hotter the better
@Madmonk Yes, I only turned on the hot water.

I have done this to a slow moving drain by waiting for it to go down, and then wait a little while before pouring a spaghetti pot full of boiling water down there, this way it gets right to the blockage....works well...

Baking powder and vinegar works well.
A good old fashion plunger works well also.

Another way is to get a plastic long thin thing, thin enough to get through one of the sinks holes, and make cuts in the plastic with a knife, all its length. Hair and such things will get stuck there as you pull it in and out the sink and it's going to take out some of the load. I treated my bathtub like that in the past, a friend told me about the trick.

👍👍👍

Its also the fact that heat of the water helps melt the fat that collects in drains from body shed, soap, (dishes if its the kitchen).

It works even better if you get it hotter by pouring boiling water down, after the sink of hot water.
Then the fill sink with hot water again - and do one more flush to force out the melted fat and grease.

(or do some plunging at this point [now that everything is heated up and soft], with hot water). It's AMAZING how much crap it dislodges).

If ya wanna finish the process off to make it last longer - pour about a litre of gel bleach into the sink, add about another liter of hot water, and then pull tjr plug - and let it flush the drain.... DO NOT USE SINK AFTERWARDS - Let it sit overnight .

This allows the bleach time to attack bacteria and kill it .

Do one more sink flush or plunger of hot water in the morning .

With a little affort, and some time, its amazing how much you can clean a drain without those awful corrosive chemicals.
