Can you just use a small pillow? That's what I did for the gaps in Mum's hospice bed -- that, and rolled up towels.

@SW-User rolled up towels might be a good idea. I sleep with a lot of stuff on my bed and am always dropping stuff back there in my sleep. I’ve tried pillows and they somehow move out of the way.

@Mardrae they are from $1-$3 each here. Also those foam rubber blocks they sell for mattresses covers or for pillows, they can be cut to size.

Line the gap with cling film making sure you use plenty.so its like a mould finish with plywood at the ends . Now mix enough plaster to fill the mould and pour in .it should set in 3 to 4 hours
