Buying a house soon

After saving up for so many years I’m finally able to buy myself a house. I spent all morning looking for homes and I’m honestly so happy. It feels like a new chapter in my life is about to start. In spite of all my mental health issues that have held me back.

How did you manage to earn enough money for a house before the age of 30 when you were mentally ill, anorexic, suicidal, self-harming, schizophrenic?

Are you a superhero?

@SW-User A few things. My mom pushed me to save money my entire life and to not be stupid with it. I started saving up when I was 17 years old and bartended for many, many years. I fucking hated being a bartender but stuck with it for so long because I was making a lot of money. The tip money alone was often twice my weekly paycheck. A couple years pass by and I managed to buy a small condo.

When the pandemic hit a few years later, I made a lot off of unemployment. But also because of the pandemic, I was able to sell that small condo for twice what it was worth because the housing market skyrocketed in the Smmer of 2020. I saw my opportunity to sell and did. Which fucking sucked because I had to move back in with my parents and that caused a whole lot of personal problems for me. But I always choose money over happiness. I've done that my entire life. It's how I was raised. My whole family is like that.

@QueenOfZaun do you regret it or were you happy that you could stand the discomfort?
QueenOfZaun · 26-30, F
@Woofwoof15 I don't know to be honest.

The housing market really slows down around December to February and with the economy going the way it is, I would keep looking and expect the house prices to lower making a purchase of a nicer place/home for you even better. And you could save a few more down payment dollars up.

But either way congrats and fantastic for you. Yes, this does help raise our spirits and mental state for sure.

@WillaKissing Yes I was thinking about buying in December or January. That's always the more lucrative time.

@QueenOfZaun Awesome and good luck.
😎👍Cool! Renting sucks and there is a feeling of security in having your own home.

Congratulations! It's quite a huge accomplishment.

Also, friendly tips, check the surrounding areas where you plan to live, and do you think the surrounding area will make your property appreciate in value in the following years. Hire an engineer to check the house out with you. Check the history of the house. Many more to mention. Good luck! :)
